So what even is a first look? It’s when you and your partner see each other for the first time on your wedding day before walking down the aisle. First looks are becoming way more popular in the wedding world. More and more couples are choosing to go the first look route instead of waiting till they’re walking down the aisle. If you’re on the fence about going with a first look or picking the traditional way, keep reading for 4 reasons why you should consider a first look!
Only Alone Time Together
Wedding days get busy. From getting ready with your bridal party and greeting all your guests and family photos, most couples rarely get a moment alone. First looks allow you to actually spend some time with just the two of you. When you wait till you’re walking down the aisle to see your partner you’re not able to talk to them or really embrace them. But during a first look, you can, talk, touch, and interact with your partner! It’s truly a beautiful moment and I get to capture such raw emotions that you will remember forever.

Less Pre Ceremony Nerves
If the idea of being the center of attention makes you uncomfortable. If you don’t like having all the eyes on you. Doing a first look is a great way to ease some of those nerves. When you choose to do a first look you don’t have as much pressure on you. Getting to see your soon-to-be spouse will feel like a weight is lifted off your shoulders and you can finally take a deep breath.
More Intimacy
With first looks, you can choose to let your family and bridal party watch or keep it between just the two of you. If you’re wanting more intimacy on your wedding day first looks are a great way to do that! Some couples will read letters to each other or choose to read their vows privately. This moment allows you and your partner to just be together and feel all the emotions.

More Photo Opportunities
Who wouldn’t want more photos on their wedding day?! By having a first look you have the opportunity to get more photos. Planning a first look is a great way to guarantee all the time you need to get all the bridal party photos, family photos, and photos with you and your significant other done. I may be a little bit biased because I’m a wedding photographer and I love extra photos, but this is my favorite reason for having a first look! You can start taking portraits together right after the first look. Plus since you’ll get all the photos done ahead of time you can plan out a slot in the timeline for sunset photos!
